Research Commercialization Support
Innovation at the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences doesn’t end with publication. The Office of Research and Graduate Education (RGE) partners with faculty to help translate scholarly discoveries into real-world impact — including the development of patentable technologies, copyrightable works, and commercially viable intellectual property. Working in close coordination with the Rutgers Office for Research and its Technology Transfer professionals, RGE provides strategic guidance at every stage of the commercialization process.
From Discovery to Protection
RGE helps faculty move promising research from concept to protected intellectual property by:
- Identifying commercialization potential in early-stage research
- Advising on timing of disclosures to protect patent rights prior to publication
- Supporting preparation of materials for invention disclosures
- Connecting faculty with the Technology Transfer Office for formal IP evaluation
- In partnership with the university’s Technology Transfer experts, RGE assists faculty in navigating:
- Patent development and prosecution for inventions, processes, devices, software, and research tools
- Copyright protection for creative works, digital platforms, databases, curricular materials, and scholarly outputs
- Evaluation of market potential and licensing pathways
If you believe your research may have patentable or copyrightable potential, RGE encourages early engagement to help preserve your intellectual property rights and position your work for successful translation and licensing.
